<p>Dark Pawns is built on CircleMUD, itself derived from DikuMUD. The lineage: DikuMUD → CircleMUD 3.0 → Dark Pawns.</p>

<li><strong>Serapis</strong> (Derek Karnes) — Original creator and implementor. Founded Dark Pawns in September 1994 on CircleMUD 1.7.</li>

<li><strong>Orodreth</strong> (S. Thompson) — Joined February 1996. Co-implementor from October 1997. Primary maintainer through the Wolfpaw era and beyond. Original author of the DP history document (circa 1999).</li>
<li><strong>Frontline</strong> (R.E. Paret) — Joined March 1996. Co-implementor from May 1998. Maintained the Dark Pawns website, recorded the community history, and sustained the project through its later years.</li>

<h2 id="community">Community</h2>
<p>Dark Pawns was played by hundreds of people over more than a decade. The player roster preserved on <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20040712053500/http://www.dp-players.com/">dp-players.com</a> represents a snapshot from June 2004 — one moment in a long-running community. Everyone who rolled a character, joined a clan, or logged in at 3 AM to grind levels contributed to what Dark Pawns was.</p>
<p>The <a href="/credits/player-roster/">player roster</a> and <a href="/credits/wizlist/">wizard list</a> are preserved from original site archives.</p>
